Welcome Spring with Jardinage Sculpturettes

Fused Glass Sculpturette Midnight Iris - with Russet Daffodil
Fused Glass Sculpturette Magenta Iris - with Sunset Echinacea

Welcome Spring with the fused glass Jardinage Sculpturettes that are now available in the Caron Art Glass Shop.  Each one is a unique rendering of a flower from my garden that is special to my heart.  The daffodil arrives early to let us know that Spring is on its way.  The rich colors of the iris have an elegance all their own.  The sturdy echinacea is the work horse of the garden and yet always looks fantastic.  And the rose’s charms are matched only by its thorns.

Fused Glass Sculpturette Red Velvet Rose - with Lavender Echinacea

I create these sculpturettes by first making the glass in the kiln.  By tilting the kiln shelves, the colors of glass flows to create painterly shifts and shadings.  I hand paint gestures onto the clear glass base to lend structure to the piece and then break up and lay the handmade glass on top.  Once I’ve fired it and it has cooled, I write the quote from Voltaire, “Il faut cultivar notre Jardin.” (We must nurture our garden) in liquid gold along the stem line and fire the piece once more.  Once the glass is complete, I seat it in a tiger wood base.  You can place the sculpturette on an open shelf, a table or windowsill and enjoy the delights of Spring year-round.
